Saving Memories

I have a box for each child to store some of their mementos that I wanted to pass on to them. I kept things like their first pair of shoes and the blankets they came home from the hospital in. I want to save awards and items that are special to them but sometimes it is easy to go overboard and save too much. I don’t want to pass down a box full of “stuff” but cherished memories.

So how do we keep from going overboard?

  • First ask yourself if this is something you as an adult would appreciate looking back on. Would you really care about your first medicine prescription?
  • Are you saving papers? Can you use technology to your advantage and scan documents instead of storing them... they will hold up longer that way!
  • Do you need to save all 10 trophies from soft ball? Or could you take a picture of them and write a few words about that time?

What are some favorite items you are saving for your children? Can you think of ways to simplify your collection?
