Make Your Own Laundry Detergent

Laundry is the bane of my existence. With two kids and a husband in the house, it seems like it's the never-ending chore, am I right? One of the things that irks me so much about laundry is how darn expensive detergent is! Lately, I've been tempted to just make my own to save some money and to have more control over the ingredients that goes in it. So I decided to just give it a go and I'm really excited to share my recipe with you today!

Here are the ingredients you'll need:

2 cups Borax (found in the laundry section)

2 cups Washing Soda (also found in the laundry section)

1 cup Oxy-Clean (or other laundry booster)

1 box Zote soap flakes (laundry section)

2 cups Scentsy Washer Whiffs (or you can use Purex Crystals)

Take all of your ingredients and dump them into a giant plastic bowl or tub. Mix everything up.

Then, working in batches, dump your mix into a food processor (this step is optional, but I find it makes the detergent more evenly mixed).

Once all of your mixture is finely processed, dump it in a cute glass jar or sturdy plastic container with a lid. That's it! How easy was that?!

This stuff is amazing: it smells wonderful, it's HE safe, and you only use about 2 TBSP PER LOAD!!! It should last you through many, many dirty loads of laundry. How lucky are you?

Bonus tip: Divide your large batch by putting it into pint sized mason jars and give them as gifts! Easy, useful and cheap. The best gift of all!

Happy laundering!
