I’m a busy working mom of six kids and a long time Costco member. When speaking with their team about the upcoming launch of a new store near my hometown in Stoney Creek, Ontario, I was delighted to participate in the opening events and excited to share some of my experiences as a long time member (and full on LOVER) of Costco.
Oh Costco, I do love you. Let me count the ways:
- Buying in Bulk
My time is precious, and between having started a company and raising six active kids, my productivity levels have to be high. Needless to say, I don’t have time to be running to the shop every time we run out of toilet paper, Tide or toothpaste. Buying these products in small containers and one at a time is a complete and utter waste of my time. A biggie sized family like mine needs biggie sized everything! Quality products (including all my FAVE Procter & Gamble stuff!) with lots of quantity suits this mom of many!
- The Gas Bar
Did I mention that all six of my kids play hockey? That amounts to somewhere around TWO THOUSAND trips to the arena a week. You can only imagine what my gas bills are like. Busy moms – the price is right at the Costco gas bar. It’s the best place to take those SUVs or Mini-vans for a fill up!
- The Gift Certificates
As long as I have been a Costco member, I have NEVER paid full price to take my kiddos to a movie. Anyone who goes to the movies without going to Costco first is nothing short of foolish. They have gift certificates for both adults and kids. You can also find an amazing variety of gift certificates for hotels, amusement parks, water parks – the list goes on and on!
- Costco Loves Small Canadian Businesses
As the Co-founder of Mabel’s Labels, the thought of working with Costco a few years ago seemed pretty intimidating. We were a small business created by four moms. What would a giant like Costco want to do with us? Well, we were treated with an incredible amount of respect. They featured us in the Costco Connection Magazine, and our products can be found online at Costco.ca!
- Customer Service
Costco really gets how to make their members feel important. Staff members in every department are always friendly and helpful. Providing delicious samples and showing demos of products contributes to an amazing in store experience. It’s a culture that values staff, vendors, suppliers and members. At the actual opening, Costco hosted a VIP event where incredible food stations were set up and we were all treated like royalty – another way Costco shows appreciation to staff and members. After the cutting of the ribbon, Costco members cruised the new location receiving generous samples and having access to special products.
